Há espécies que, por não serem originárias do território nacional ou de uma sua área geograficamente isolada, nem tendo aí área natural de distribuição, passada ou presente, são designadas de ESPÉCIES EXÓTICAS, NÃO INDÍGENAS, ou ALÓCTONES.

A disseminação ou libertação, intencional ou acidental, de um ou mais exemplares de espécies exóticas, incluindo os seus gâmetas, sementes, ovos, propágulos ou qualquer porção que possa sobreviver e reproduzir-se, é considerada uma INTRODUÇÃO NA NATUREZA.

A introdução na natureza de espécies exóticas pode causar prejuízos irreversíveis à FLORA e FAUNA INDÍGENAS, através da competição ou predação, assim como pode afetar seriamente as atividades económicas e a saúde pública, incluindo a transmissão de agentes patogénicos ou parasitas.

A detenção de um ou mais exemplares de espécies exóticas implica o cumprimento de REQUISITOS MÍ- NIMOS DE SEGURANÇA que impeçam a sua evasão ou disseminação.

A introdução na natureza de espécies exóticas está sujeita a AUTORIZAÇÃO, incorrendo os infratores em responsabilidade contra-ordenacional sancionada com coi- mas, para além do pagamento dos custos de ativação de mecanismos de controlo a que possam dar origem e de reposição da situação anterior à infração.

A introdução na natureza de espécies exóticas é regulada pelo DECRETO-LEI N.o 92/2019, de 10 de Julho.

BEFORE ACQUIRING AN ORNAMENTAL PLANT OR A PET ANIMAL KNOWS THAT:
There are species that, because they do not originate from the national territory or from a geographically isolated area, nor having a natural area of distribution, past or present, are called EXOTIC, NON-INDIGENOUS, or ALIEN SPECIES.
The intentional or accidental dissemination or release of one or more specimens of exotic species, including their gametes, seeds, eggs, propagules or any portion that may survive and reproduce, is considered to be an INTRODUCTION INTO NATURE.
The introduction into nature of exotic species can cause irreversible damage to INDIGENOUS FLORA and FAUNA through competition or predation, as well as can seriously affect economic activities and public health, including the transmission of pathogens or parasites.
The possession of one or more specimens of alien species shall entail compliance with MINIMUM SECURITY REQUIREMENTS preventing their escape or dissemination.
The introduction into the nature of exotic species is subject to AUTHORIZATION, incurring the offenders in administrative liability sanctioned by but in addition to the payment of the costs of activating control mechanisms that may give rise to and restoring the situation prior to the infringement.
The introduction into the wild of exotic species is regulated by DECRETO-LEI No 92/2019 of 10 July.
